Your Wedding Flowers

When choosing your flowers, be sure to keep these basic questions in mind:

  • What is the style of your ceremony and reception? (Formal or informal, traditional or nontraditional)
  • What is the colour scheme of your wedding?
  • What time of year and day is the wedding?
  • How much have you budgeted for your flowers?

Once you have answered these questions, you will be able to determine your floral needs.

Making a list of those you will need flowers for will be very helpful in your planning.

Your list should include some or all of the following:

  • Bridal bouquet and a second one for tossing
  • Attendants' bouquets and coordinating hairpieces
  • Boutonnieres for groom, best man, ushers and fathers
  • Corsages for mothers
  • Flowers for flower girl and ring bearer
  • Flowers for grandparents and other special guests
  • Floral arrangements for the wedding ceremony, including altar arrangements, pew decorations, candelabra, unity candle, kneeling behcn accent and aisle carpet
  • Floral arrangements for the reception, including centerpieces for head table and guest tables, arrangements fo the buffet table and flower decorations for the wedding cake
  • Thank-you flowers for parents or other special people to be delivered at the time of or after the ceremony.

Tips for Wedding Flowers You'll Cherish

Use a professional florist. He or she is best equipped to plan and organize a wedding event.
Discuss your budget with your florist. He or she will be able to discuss several price options
Allow your florist to place the floral decorations on the cake. The florist may wish to work with the caterer to achieve the desired result.
Ask questions about the flowers your florist is suggesting: how long will they last, what do they look like, etc.
Most brides still abide by the custom of having "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue". Your florist can suggest ways for you to incorporate this into your flowers selection.
